How we measure whether Notum is right.
No trademark search tool publishes its accuracy. Avanti Notum does it differently: a benchmark gate decides when a scoring figure has earned the right to be shown, and this page explains how.
How accuracy is measured
Notum's scoring engine is real and tested. Alongside it sits an internal accuracy gate — a benchmark test that has to pass before we'll publish a number. We built the gate specifically so we can't quietly publish a figure that hasn't earned it. Publishing a percentage that hasn't passed the gate would be worse than publishing none at all.
What “passing the gate” means, and what happens then
The benchmark is a set of real trademark pairs whose outcomes are already known from published tribunal decisions. Notum's scoring has to be measured against it, and the measurement has to be repeatable, before any figure is published. When it has, this page shows the figure, the full methodology, and a version history — never a headline percentage dropped in on its own.
Why this matters more than a feature list
A similarity score is only useful if you know how much to trust it. Most trademark tools never say. We'd rather be the tool that tells you exactly how we checked our own work — and would rather publish nothing than a figure that hasn't earned it.
