About the product
Avanti Notum is a UK trademark search and monitoring tool. It searches the UK trademark register, scores how closely a brand name matches existing marks by sound, spelling and meaning, and ranks the results by conflict risk. It also generates professional reports and monitors registered marks for status changes and deadlines.
No. This is the most important answer on this page. Avanti Notum is a search and monitoring tool. It produces similarity scores and conflict detection — that is, information. It does not provide legal advice, it cannot tell you whether your trademark will be accepted for registration, and it never guarantees the outcome of an application. For the registration of any trademark, we recommend consulting a qualified trademark attorney. Avanti Notum is designed to do the search legwork so that a professional's time is spent on judgement, not legwork.
Every result is scored for similarity across three dimensions. Phonetic scoring measures how alike two names sound, visual scoring measures how close the spelling is, and conceptual scoring uses AI to measure whether two names carry a similar meaning, even when they look and sound different. The scores combine, with the degree of class overlap, into a clear high, medium or low conflict-risk rating. You can always see the individual scores, not just the summary.
It means a mark on the register is close to yours — by sound, spelling or meaning — and likely sits in an overlapping class. It tells you where the conflict risk is concentrated. It does not mean your application will be refused, and it is not a legal ruling. It is a signal telling you where to look harder, and what to discuss with a trademark attorney.
The UK IPO register — the UK national register. Every plan, including Free, searches it in a single query.
Avanti Notum focuses on word-mark search — the names themselves, where the great majority of conflicts are decided. Logo and image comparison is a different discipline, and we would rather do one thing properly.
Nice Classification is the international system of 45 classes that organises trademarks by the type of goods or services they cover. You do not need to learn the system — Avanti Notum can suggest the right classes for you. Enter your SIC code or describe your business, and it maps you to the relevant Nice classes automatically.
Your SIC code is the industry code you chose when registering your company at Companies House. Trademark searches use Nice classes instead. Avanti Notum translates one into the other: enter your SIC code and it suggests the Nice classes most relevant to your industry. This feature is particularly useful for accountants, who use SIC codes daily.
The free UK IPO search shows you marks that match your text — a raw list with no sense of which results are a genuine conflict, and no similar-but-not-identical matches. Avanti Notum scores every result for similarity, ranks them by conflict risk, and explains the results in plain English. It answers 'which of these matter?', not just 'what exists?'.

Data and privacy
From the official public register: the UK IPO register for UK trademarks. Avanti Notum runs its own continuously refreshed copy of this public data so that searches are fast and current.
Avanti Notum's copy of the registers is refreshed regularly, and where a search needs the very latest position it checks the live register directly. Every search result and every report carries a 'data as of' timestamp, so you always know exactly how current the information is.
The minimum needed to run the service: your name and email for your account, your subscription details (handled by Stripe — we never see your card number), and your search history so you can return to past searches. Full detail is in our Privacy Policy.
Yes. Your searches and their results are visible to you and, on team plans, to members of your team. They are not shared with other users or sold to third parties. We may use aggregated, anonymous data — for example, overall search trends — to improve the product, but never in a way that identifies you or your business.
Yes. You can delete your account and your associated personal data at any time, and you can request an export of your data. Avanti Notum is operated in line with UK GDPR. See the Privacy Policy for how to make a request.
Security
Yes. Avanti Notum is served over encrypted HTTPS connections, passwords are stored using strong one-way hashing, and the platform is built on established, well-tested security practices. Optional two-factor authentication adds a further layer of protection to your account.
Payments are processed by Stripe, a global payment provider. Your card details are entered directly with Stripe and are never seen or stored by Avanti Notum.
Two-factor authentication is available to all accounts and we recommend enabling it. Single sign-on (SSO) is available on the Enterprise plan for organisations whose IT policy requires it.
Getting started
Create a free account — it takes about a minute and needs no card. Then enter a brand name, set your trademark classes (or let Avanti Notum suggest them from your SIC code), and run your first search.
No. Avanti Notum is built for people who are not IP specialists. The onboarding walks you through your first search, terms are explained in plain English, and the SIC-to-Nice mapping handles the classes for you.
Yes. The site and the search interface are designed to work on phones, tablets and desktop computers.
A search typically completes in seconds. You see live progress as results arrive from the UK register.
For professionals and teams
Yes — this is one of the audiences Avanti Notum is built for. The Team and Enterprise plans include white-label reports under your practice's branding, and the SIC-to-Nice mapping lets you work from the codes you already use. See the For Accountants page, and we recommend reviewing the positioning with your professional indemnity insurer before offering it as a service.
The Team and Enterprise plans include multiple seats so team members can each have their own login while sharing one subscription and search quota. A team admin can invite and remove members and see a team activity log.
Yes. The Enterprise plan includes a documented REST API for search, similarity scoring, class lookup, SIC-to-Nice mapping and report generation — suitable for integration with practice management software and internal systems.
Yes. You can generate PDF reports from any search, and search data can be exported for your records or for inclusion in professional documents.
